Focuses on crop farmers’ access to agricultural information in rural areas of Delta State, Nigeria. Data were gathered by questionnaire from ten villages. Farmers of both genders experienced obstacles to information use, although findings revealed that there were also differences between male and female crop farmers with respect to their information needs and sources of agricultural information. Female crop farmers experienced greater problems in accessing agricultural information. However, the major information problems suffered by farmers are not gender‐specific problems. Concludes with recommendations to enhance all crop farmers’ access to agricultural information.

This is a survey of users’ levels of satisfaction with reserve collection services at Delta State University Library, Abraka, Nigeria. By means of a questionnaire, data were collected. Findings revealed the personal characteristics of the respondents and their levels of satisfaction with reserve collection, loan policy, staff, condition of reading room, opening hours and the time it takes to serve users. The paper concludes by making recommendations for improvement.

This paper reports the financial aspect of the 2002 National Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE) – Nigerian library and information science educators’ umbrella body. Conference financial difficulties encountered by the hosting department and how these difficulties were tackled are highlighted.

This article surveys university library users’ attitudes towards overdue fines. Users of the libraries of the University of Benin, Benin City, and Delta State University, Abraka, both in Nigeria, were used as subjects for the study. A total of 143 users who responded to a questionnaire participated in the study. Frequency counts, percentages and t‐test statistic were used to analyze data. Findings revealed the users’ opinions and feelings about overdue fines. No significant difference was found between either university library with respect to their users’ attitude toward overdue fines. Neither was any discovered in attitude between genders. This paper makes recommendations that can help libraries boost the collection of overdue fines.

This work surveys use of e‐mail by Technical Education students in Nigerian universities. Questionnaires were used to collect data from technical education students in three Nigerian universities: University of Benin, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Delta State University. Data were analysed and presented by gender using frequency counts and percentages. Findings reveal that a majority of the respondents used e‐mail to communicate with parents/relatives and friends, followed by with course mates, a majority of them have e‐mail address with yahoo, use/access e‐mail in cyber cafés, send and receive less than 10 mails per week, prefer e‐mail to postal system and are deterred by slow computer response from use of e‐mail; conclusion was drawn in the light of findings.

This paper describes KONYIN, a Nigerian multilingual keyboard that has just been invented. It highlights the features and the benefits of the keyboard manufactured by LANCOR technologies based in Boston, MA. Describes eight years of product design to achieve results.

Applications for a new typewriter/keyboard that accommodates different languages and diacritical marks in a single interface.

Users no longer have to switch keyboard layout to type in any language. Has great potential for other language variations.

Provides useful information and advice for software architects and computer scientists, linguists and writers who want to write in native languages and dialects as well as international languages on one keyboard. Has enormous potential for translation.

This study explores the use of the cybercafe at Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. By means of questionnaires, data were collected from 83 users. Findings revealed that a majority of the respondents have not been using the cafe for a long period of time; most of them visit the internet cafe for sending or receiving e‐mail, followed by browsing for academic information; most acquired internet knowledge and skills through practical self‐teaching but a good number of respondents do not spend a long time accessing the net per visit. Yahoo! is the search engine used by most respondents followed by Google. The high cost of internet access is a constraint to a majority of users.

The purpose of this paper is to describe cyber crime and techniques adopted for combating it in Nigeria.

Reviews the state of cyber crime in Nigeria, and how it is being stemmed in the country.

The types of cyber crime in Nigeria are revealed together with the efforts geared towards combating/preventing cyber crime in the country. The paper also draws attention to the possibility of libraries that offer public internet access service being victims of cyber crime as well as unknown perpetrators. The paper recommends how cyber crime can be brought under control.

It reveals factors that contribute to perpetration of cyber crime in Nigeria and efforts being made to combat it. This will enable various countries, in developing and developed world, to be sensitized to the menace of cyber crime and take relevant steps to fight against it.
